Percussion Discussion about Discussions in Percussion

Sooooo…

In February of 2020, I was putting my site together and had such a wry smile on my face when I came up with the title of my blog…Percussion Discussion…I mean, what a perfect title. “I’m such a genius” I told myself.

Fast forward to July of 2020 and I’m given an introduction to a percussionist named Damon Grant by an old friend (a killer percussionist in L.A. by the name of Kassandra Kocoshis). Damon asked if I was willing to be interviewed for his podcast… I’ll confess, I didn’t know Damon, and despite the title of his show being in the message, I hadn’t made the connection.

As I sat down to prepare for my interview (literally 15 minutes before it was scheduled), I started to read a bit more about Damon and his site only to discover that the name of his Podcast was…Discussions in Percussion!!!

I was slightly embarrassed that I may have totally ripped off this guy’s “Genius” title. I didn’t know how to address this potential infringement…perhaps the interview was a ruse in order to serve me with a “cease and desist” letter!?!?

Luckily, Damon was completely cool. He didn’t make me feel like a jerk and seemed somewhat tickled at this inadvertent transgression. I suppose there’s not many words that rhyme with percussion…(I fully welcome all possible solutions in the comments below)

The interview went on and we had some amazing discussions about life, percussion, sound concepts, old friends, and a brief toe dip into politics (which we continued off air). Damon’s Podcast is great and if I’m episode #190, then he has #189 interviews with some amazing percussionists, composers, performers and others. Please give it a listen.

ALL said and done, we had a really great interview and you can listen to it here:
